Get Assistant

For law firms

Intake calls arrive while you are in court

Someone deciding which attorney to call rarely leaves a message. Get Assistant answers your line, captures the matter type, jurisdiction and the names needed for a conflict check, and states plainly that no legal advice is being given and no attorney-client relationship is formed.

  • Answers outside court hours
  • Conflict-check details captured
  • No legal advice given

Why it matters

What the phone costs law firms

Court and client time is not phone time

Hearings, depositions and drafting all compete with intake. Every hour off the phone is an hour of inquiries going elsewhere.

Intake is only useful if it is complete

A name and a number is not intake. Matter type, jurisdiction, key dates and the other side's name are what make the callback productive.

Conflict checks start at the first call

Capturing the opposing party at intake means a conflict is caught before anyone spends time on the matter.

Common calls

The calls it handles

Each is answered from the business knowledge you configure and lands as a call record, with a message or an appointment request alongside it.

Prospective client inquiries
Practice area, a short description of the situation, jurisdiction, and how the caller found the firm.
Deadline-sensitive matters
Hearing dates, filing deadlines or a service date captured verbatim and flagged for prompt review.
Existing client messages
Matter reference and the reason for the call, taken as a message for the attorney or paralegal.
Out-of-scope callers
Practice areas you do not handle are politely declined using your configured wording, and still logged.
Opposing counsel and court calls
Caller name, firm and reason logged as a message. No case detail is discussed.

A realistic call

How a call actually goes

Thursday, 6:20pm. A prospective employment client.

  1. ReceptionistThanks for calling. May I ask what the call is regarding?
  2. CallerI was let go last week and I think it was retaliation.
  3. ReceptionistI'm sorry to hear that. I can't give legal advice, but I can take the details for an attorney to review. May I have your full name?
  4. CallerDavid Okonkwo.
  5. ReceptionistThank you. And the name of the employer?
  6. CallerHalvorsen Logistics, here in Illinois.
  7. ReceptionistNoted. Is there a deadline or hearing date I should record?
  8. CallerNot yet, no.
  9. ReceptionistI've logged that for the team to review and call you back on this number. Is there anything else I should add?
  10. CallerNo, thank you.
  11. ReceptionistThank you for calling — someone will be in touch.

What gets captured

What ends up in your dashboard

  • Caller name and callback number
  • Matter type and practice area
  • A short factual description in the caller's words
  • Jurisdiction or the county and state involved
  • Opposing party or employer name, for your conflict check
  • Any deadline, hearing or service date the caller mentions
  • Whether they are a new inquiry or an existing client

How it works

Evenings, weekends and overflow

Most people call an attorney the evening something goes wrong. Calls after hours and over the weekend are answered and logged with the matter details, so intake begins with a reviewable record rather than a callback that starts from nothing. Deadline mentions are captured verbatim and flagged in the record.

Two ways to forward

Forward every call, or use conditional forwarding from your carrier so only unanswered and after-hours calls reach your Get Assistant number.

Limitations

What it will not do

These limits are deliberate, and they are the same on every call.

  • It gives no legal advice and no assessment of the merits of a matter.
  • It states that no attorney-client relationship is formed by the call, and it does not treat what is said as privileged.
  • It does not run the conflict check. It captures the names your team needs to run one.
  • It does not quote fees unless you configure the fee language yourself, and it does not accept engagements.
  • It does not verify identity or handle emergencies — callers in danger are directed to 911. On every plan, if you've set up call transfer, your receptionist can ask the caller and then attempt a warm transfer to your intake team during the hours you choose. If nobody picks up, it takes a message and a callback number instead.

Callers may share sensitive facts before anyone tells them not to. Records and email notifications should be treated as confidential business records, with dashboard access limited to intake staff. Privacy Policy and Terms.

FAQs

Law firms questions

Setup, billing and security are covered in the general FAQs.

Will it give legal advice?
No. It says clearly that it cannot advise, captures the facts the caller offers, and leaves every judgment to an attorney.
Does it perform a conflict check?
No. It captures the opposing party or employer name at intake so your team can run the check before any work begins.
Is the call privileged?
No. No attorney-client relationship is formed by an intake call, and the receptionist says so rather than letting the caller assume otherwise.
Can it turn away matters we don't take?
Yes. Practice areas outside your scope are declined in your configured wording, and the call is still logged so nothing disappears silently.

Start intake at the first call, not the callback

Configure your practice areas, intake questions and decline wording, then let after-hours inquiries arrive as complete records.
