Why it matters

What the phone costs plumbers

A homeowner with a leak calls the next number

Emergency plumbing is a three-calls-in-ninety-seconds search. A voicemail box performs about as well as a disconnected line.

Urgent and routine arrive on the same number

A no-water call and a bathroom remodel quote sound identical for ten seconds. Every call record notes what the caller described, so morning triage takes minutes.

Callback details go missing in the van

Notes scribbled between jobs lose the ZIP code, the unit number, or where to park. Captured fields do not.

Common calls

The calls it handles

Each is answered from the business knowledge you configure and lands as a call record, with a message or an appointment request alongside it.

Active leak or burst pipe
Water is escaping now. The address is captured and the caller is asked whether the shutoff valve has been closed.
No water or no hot water
Nothing is being damaged, but the property is without supply. Water heater type is noted when the caller knows it.
Clogged drain or toilet
Whether it is the only bathroom in the home is captured, because that changes how you sequence the day.
Quotes for planned work
Repipes, fixture swaps, water heater replacements — logged as a quote request with scope notes, not dropped into the urgent pile.
Property management and rental jobs
Tenant contact and access arrangements are captured separately from the person paying the invoice.
Existing job follow-ups
"Is the technician still coming?" is taken as a message with whatever reference the caller has.

A realistic call

How a call actually goes

Saturday, 9:40pm. Water is coming through a kitchen ceiling.

  1. ReceptionistGood evening, thanks for calling. How can I help?
  2. CallerThere's water coming through my kitchen ceiling from the bathroom above.
  3. ReceptionistThat sounds urgent. Have you been able to close the shutoff valve?
  4. CallerYes, about ten minutes ago, and it's slowed right down.
  5. ReceptionistGood. Can I take the service address with the ZIP code?
  6. Caller14 Bramley Road, Austin, 78704.
  7. ReceptionistThanks. I've logged that for the team to review and call you back on this number. Is there anything else I should add?
  8. CallerNo, that's everything.
  9. ReceptionistUnderstood. Someone will be in touch shortly — take care.

What gets captured

What ends up in your dashboard

  • Caller name and callback number, offered from caller ID and confirmed out loud
  • Full service address including ZIP code
  • What is happening now — leaking, clogged, no supply, no hot water
  • Whether the water has been isolated at the shutoff valve
  • Access notes: unit number, gate code preference, parking
  • Whether the caller is the owner, a tenant or a property manager
  • The visit window the caller asked for, logged as a request

How it works

Evenings, weekends and overflow

Most emergency plumbing revenue lands outside business hours. Forward your line permanently, or use conditional forwarding so only unanswered and after-hours calls reach your Get Assistant number. Overnight callers get a real conversation and a logged job request; you get a triaged list instead of eleven voicemails.

Two ways to forward

Forward every call, or use conditional forwarding from your carrier so only unanswered and after-hours calls reach your Get Assistant number.

Setup and forwarding FAQs

Limitations

What it will not do

These limits are deliberate, and they are the same on every call.

  • It does not dispatch. Nothing is sent to a technician automatically — a person on your team reads the request and decides.
  • On every plan, if you've set up call transfer, your receptionist can ask the caller and then attempt a warm transfer to your on-call technician during the hours you choose. If nobody picks up, it takes a message and a callback number instead.
  • It does not promise an arrival time, and it does not confirm appointments — requests stay requests until you confirm them.
  • It does not quote prices unless you configure the pricing language yourself.
  • It is not an emergency service. Gas odors, electrical hazards and flooding that threatens safety belong with 911 or your utility, and your greeting should say so.

Call records hold home addresses and access notes, so limit dashboard access accordingly. Calls are recorded and transcribed by default; disclosure obligations in your state are yours to meet in your greeting. Privacy Policy and Terms.

FAQs

Plumbers questions

Setup, billing and security are covered in the general FAQs.

Can it tell an emergency from a routine job?
It records what the caller describes, and an active leak reads very differently from a quote request. It does not make the dispatch decision — someone on your team reviews the record and chooses what happens next.
Can it book a slot on my schedule?
It logs an appointment request with the caller, the work and the window they asked for. It stays a request until someone on your side confirms it, so nothing gets scheduled by mistake.
Does it know my service area and call-out fee?
If you configure them. Service-area boundary, call-out fee, hours and the brands you work on are part of your business knowledge, and the receptionist answers from that rather than guessing.
What if the caller asks for me by name?
On every plan, if you've set up call transfer, your receptionist can ask the caller and then attempt a warm transfer to you or whoever is covering during the hours you choose. If nobody picks up, it takes a message and a callback number instead. Otherwise it takes a message with the caller's name, number and reason for calling.

Stop losing leak calls to the next number on the list

Set up your service area, fees and call-handling rules in about fifteen minutes, then let the calls that follow get answered.
